Concept: The work deals with the dystopian notice of humanity's disconnect from nature and the rise of the new era, the Anthropocene. It reacts to and was inspired by the work of Jean Tinguely, whose art satirised the mindless overproduction of material goods in advanced industrial society. Ousia is an experiment showing the next phase, where the world is already situated in the post consumerism life is. Without pressure intended, it mysteriously sets an atmosphere that leaves one in a certain state of contemplation.
Ousia was created in November 2016 for the Museumnacht. It was presented as an ongoing investigation in the imposing, furthermore empty basement of the Stedelijk Museum.
Music: The soundscape was made by Amsterdam based producer Aquatic. In the piece industrial sounds were used to create sounds to mimic nature.
